Requirements for Remote Access via Thread

You can access your Smart Lock (4th Generation) remotely via Thread.

To control your Smart Lock (4th Generation) via your Nuki App from afar, you don't need the Nuki Bridge or the built-in Wi-Fi module. Your Smart Home hub serves as the control center for your Smart Lock and brings it online. Learn more about Thread and its benefits here.

These requirements must be met before you can use Remote Access via Thread:

1. Smart Home Hub

You need a compatible Smart Home hub that supports Matter via Thread. To bring your Smart Lock online, the Smart Home hub must provide Internet access and the support of NAT64 must be incorporated. Only if NAT64 is enabled on the hub, the Thread devices will have Internet access.
Currently, the following Smart Home Hubs meet these requirements:

  • Apple TV
  • Apple HomePod
  • Apple HomePod Mini
  • Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro
  • Home Assistant

2. Smart Lock (4th Generation)

The 4th generation of Nuki Smart Lock supports Remote Access via Thread. Currently, the following Smart Locks meet the requirements:

  • Smart Lock (4th Generation)
  • Smart Lock Pro (4th Generation)
