Nuki Web integration with Amazon Alexa

By linking your Nuki Web account with Alexa you can easily control your Smart Lock via voice control. You can lock, unlock your door, and check the lock status via Alexa commands. To use the Nuki Smart Home skill you need remote access and a Nuki Web account.

Set up Amazon Alexa for your Nuki device

Make sure you have stable remote access to your Smart Lock before you start activating the „Nuki Smart Home” skill. Please also activate Nuki Web in your Nuki App („Settings” > „Features & Configuration” > „Activate Nuki Web”).

Linking Nuki and Amazon Alexa

  1. Select „Amazon Alexa” in the „Features & Configuration” section in the Nuki App.
  2. Tap on „Connect now” to link your Nuki Web account with Alexa.
  3. If the Alexa app is installed on your smartphone, it will open automatically. You can now link your Nuki Web account with Alexa.
Alexa is NOT installed on your smartphone? You will be redirected to the web view of the Amazon login page. Login to your Amazon account and link your Nuki Web account to Alexa.
Note:

App to App linking could not be completed? Ensure your smartphone settings allow the Nuki App to open URLs that start with nuki.io. Alternatively, open the Alexa app manually and complete the linking of Nuki and Alexa directly in the Alexa app.

Supported commands

You can check the status of your Smart Lock, lock your door or even unlock it using Alexa. Here are some examples of commands:

  • „Alexa, lock [Smart Lock name].”
  • „Alexa, is [Smart Lock name] locked?”
  • „Alexa, unlock [Smart Lock name].”
Alexa will prompt you to enter your security code.

Please make sure that you include the name of the Smart Lock in all your commands.

Activate „Unlock”/„Open door”

The unlocking/opening of doors must be activated in the Alexa app at the respective Smart Lock. Before unlocking Alexa will always ask you to enter your security code. That’s how you activate the unlocking feature:

  1. In the Alexa app, go to „Nuki Smart Home Skill” > „Settings” > „Manage Smart Home Devices”.
  2. Select your Smart Lock and activate the unlocking feature.
  3. Define a personal security code.
Note:

Depending on your door fitting set up in the Nuki app, Alexa will either unlock or pull the latch to open the door.

  • „Knob or bar”: Alexa will open the door.
  • „Handle”: Alexa will only unlock the door without pulling the latch.

Troubleshooting

Are you having problems setting up or using the Nuki skill for Amazon Alexa? Here you will find valuable tips for troubleshooting:

App to App linking could not be completed

The Nuki app needs the permission to open URLs that start with nuki.io:

  1. Open „Settings”. on your smartphone and select „Apps”. Please note that this path may vary depending on the manufacturer or Android version.
  2. Open the settings of the Nuki app and open „Open by default”.
  3. Under „Open supported links” define that links from nuki.io are always opened. Click on „Always allow”.

If you use the Samsung browser on your smartphone, activate the feature „Open links in other apps”:

  1. Open the Samsung browser.
  2. Go to „Settings” > „Useful features”.
  3. Enable the slider „Open links in other apps”.

Alexa doesn't recognize your Smart Lock

Include the name of your Smart Lock in all commands. With this, Alexa knows which Smart Home device should be locked. Alexa takes the name of the device (e.g. „Front door”) from your Nuki Web account.
You want to change the name or Alexa doesn’t recognize it? Change it directly in your Alexa app:

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app and go to „Skills”.
  2. Select „Nuki Smart Home Skill” > „Settings” > „Manage Smart Home Devices”.
  3. Choose your Smart Lock. Tap „Edit”, and then „Edit Name” in the upper right corner.

Connection issue

To use the „Nuki Smart Home” skill you need remote access to your Smart Lock and a Nuki Web account.
If your connection to Alexa is lost, re-establish it through the Amazon Alexa app by following these steps:

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa App and go to the „Skills” section in the menu.
  2. Search for the „Nuki Smart Home Skill”.
  3. Follow the prompts to link your Nuki Web account with Alexa.
  4. In the Alexa app, navigate to „Settings” > „Manage Smart Home Devices”.
  5. Select your Nuki Smart Lock. Also make sure the name is properly configured (e.g., „Front door”).
Note:

Do you have the Smart Lock (4th Generation) or the Smart Lock Pro (4th Generation)? Your Smart Lock also supports Matter integration with Amazon Alexa. The new communication standard Matter enables seamless integration of your Smart Lock into your Smart Home.
Currently, you can use Matter integration with Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
