Open the front door with your Apple Watch

The Apple Watch LTE communicates directly with your Nuki devices

One of the most significant advantages of the Apple watch is that you don’t have to take your iPhone out of your pocket so often. From now on, you can even leave it at home. Because with the Nuki app you can lock your door directly via your Apple Watch LTE. This is extremely practical, especially when you go for a run every day.

Within Bluetooth range you can control your Nuki device directly via your Apple Watch. The direct communication via Bluetooth between the Apple Watch and Nuki device allows you to open your door, even if you don't have your iPhone with you.

Communication via your iPhone
When using an Apple Watch without LTE, the iPhone has to be nearby to control your door remotely. Watch and iPhone communicate via Bluetooth. Therefore, make sure that both devices are close to each other.

Requirements and setup

To install the Nuki app on your watch, you need:

  • an Apple Watch with WatchOS 7 or higher
  • an iPhone with operating system version iOS 11.4 or higher
  • Bluetooth 4.0 or higher

Note! Apple Watch Series 1&2 (WatchOS 6 and below) are no longer supported.

The installation is completed in just a few steps. Proceed as follows:

  1. Make sure that your iPhone and the Apple Watch are paired with each other.
  2. Download the Nuki app for free from the Apple App Store and install it on your iPhone.
  3. Open the "Watch" app on your iPhone. Now click on "Nuki" and activate the option "show on Apple Watch".
  4. All connected Nuki devices will now be displayed on your Apple Watch.
  5. If you are using multiple Nuki devices, they will be listed according to their order in the Nuki app on your iPhone. You can switch between the different devices by swiping left or right. If you want to move a specific device to the first position, set it as your favorite in the Nuki app on your iPhone.

From now on you can control your Nuki device via your Apple Watch.
On the watch you will see the two lock commands that are also displayed in the Nuki app when you tap once on the desired Nuki device on your iPhone. By scrolling or turning the dial you can see the other lock commands.

There are some points to keep in mind when you want to control your Nuki device via your Apple Watch. We have summarized the most important tips for avoiding problems:

  • Restart your Apple Watch and iPhone
In case of connection problems or errors in the status display, always reboot your iPhone and Apple Watch!
  • Note the installation requirements
Nuki is compatible with WatchOS 7 and later, but Apple Watch Series 1&2 (WatchOS 6 and below) are no longer supported.
  • You need your iPhone for the installation
Your iPhone and your Apple Watch have to be paired before the installation. Before you can use the Nuki app on your watch, it has to be installed on your iPhone.
  • Activate Bluetooth
  • Check the connection status of your Nuki device
You need online access to your Nuki device to control it remotely. Check the online access via Bridge or built-in Wi-Fi.
  • Apple Watch without LTE works via iPhone
When using an Apple Watch without LTE, iPhone and Apple Watch have to be within Bluetooth range of each other. The Nuki app has to be available and thus at least open in the background on your iPhone. Check the settings of your iPhone and correct them if necessary.
