-
What is a position run and when is it performed by the Smart Lock?
A position run is always performed when the current position of the Smart Lock needs to be checked.
This is the case after a battery change, for example.
During a position detection the Smart Lock turns the bolt as far as possible into the “locked position” and then back to the original position.
This position detection does not affect the functionality of the Smart Lock and after completion the device is available again without any restrictions. Please note: There can be no unwanted opening of your door - so there is no security risk whatsoever! -->

Product recall: How can I check if my Smart Lock 3.0 is affected?
Although we strive to work with highest quality standards, errors can never be fully avoided. During one of our routine quality checks it became evident that a faulty component has been integrated in a production batch of the Smart Lock 3.0. This faulty component can lead to a limited bluetooth range. As a result, this may mean that a bluetooth connection is only possible within a distance of just a few centimeters of the Smart Lock.
All affected devices can be clearly identified via their Smart Lock ID and will be exchanged by us without hesitation and naturally completely free of charge. Please note that only some Smart Locks 3.0 are affected by this.
To facilitate screening and exchanging the affected devices we set up a service program. You can check your Smart Lock ID and find more information here: Service program for the Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 -->

Can I continue to lock my door with my key?
We recommend using a cylinder with emergency function
Yes, you can continue to lock your door from the outside with the key if your cylinder is equipped with an emergency function. This means that you can lock your door lock from the outside, even if there is a key inside the lock. It is important that the key inside the lock turns synchronously with the key on the outside. The cylinder must have this feature to ensure that the Smart Lock does not lose its position after locking the door with a physical key.
You can find out whether your door lock is equipped with this feature by using our installation check. -->

Do I need the Nuki Bridge if I want to use the Smart Lock with HomeKit?
The HomeKit integration makes it easy to add the Nuki Smart Lock to your Smart Home.
You do not necessarily need the Nuki Bridge to use the HomeKit; however, the functionalities of the Apple Home app are limited compared to the Nuki app and there are considerably fewer features available.
It essentially depends on your personal usage situation. If you wish to use all Smart Lock features, we recommend using the Nuki Bridge together with HomeKit.Note: The Smart Lock 3.0 Pro has a built-in Wi-Fi module. So you can manage it remotely at any time. You do not need a Nuki Bridge.
Examples of its use
Using features of the Nuki app
If you wish to use all Smart Lock features (such as managing access permissions), we recommend using the Nuki Bridge. Then, you can simply use the Nuki app to have all Smart Lock features at your disposal.
Using Bridge and HomeKit at the same time
Of course, you can also use both at the same time. This way, you can access your Smart Lock with the Nuki app via the Bridge and use the Home app via your control centre located within Bluetooth range of your Smart Lock.
Remote Smart Lock control
If you also wish to control your Smart Lock on the go using the HomeKit, you need a "Bridge replacement" as a control centre (such as an Apple HomePod, iPad, or Apple TV). This needs to be connected to the Smart Lock via Bluetooth.
You can use HomeKit to remotely lock and unlock the door through the Home app. If you have a knob or a bar on the outside of your door, "unlock" always automatically means "open door" (the door mechanism is unlatched and opens).Learn how Apple HomeKit works with your electronic door lock

Is the Nuki Fob compatible with every Smart Lock generation?
Open your door with the smart accessories from Nuki.
With the Nuki Keypad or the Nuki Fob you can open your door in just a few seconds. The smart accessories by Nuki are the ideal alternative if you want to leave your smartphone at home.
The Smart Lock 3.0 is compatible with both versions of our Keypad and the Fob (2nd generation). Only the first version of the Nuki Fob is no longer supported by the Smart Lock 3.0.
-->
-
From what distance can I lock my door using the Fob?
The average Bluetooth range varies between 5 and 15 metres, as a result of structural conditions in place. Under optimal conditions, you can control your Smart Lock using the Fob from a distance of approx. 15 metres. Reinforced doors and shielding materials such as glass can restrict the reach of the Fob from the outside.-->
-
What can I do if my Fob doesn't lock at the push of a button?
First, check whether you can control the Smart Lock from the inside. If you only experience problems from the outside, reinforced door or shielding materials might restrict the reach. The LED signals on the Fob indicate why a locking process was not carried out. If the Fob does not indicate any connectivity errors or if the Fob works properly from the inside, try again after changing the batteries.-->
-
Can I deactivate a Fob in case of loss?
You can temporarily restrict access permissions for the Fob or also deactivate them.
User management takes place through the Nuki app. Choose the Nuki device connected to the Fob and select "Settings" > "Lock permissions" > "Fob". You can view and manage all users with rights here. If you have online access to your Nuki device, this works even from afar. -->
-
Can I control more than one Smart Lock with one Nuki Fob?
A Fob can receive rights for up to 100 Smart Locks. If you connect your Fob to over 100 door locks, the oldest right is always automatically overwritten. If you give a locking command with your Fob and the Fob is connected to more than one Smart Lock, the command is always given to the Smart Lock with the strongest signal. There is no option to select a lock in this case; the Bluetooth signal strength is decisive.-->
-
Why does my Fob sometimes lock instead of unlock the door?
Intelligent locking: The Fob unlocks a locked door and locks an unlocked door.
"Intelligent Locking" is active by default; in other words, the Fob unlocks a locked door and locks an unlocked door. With doors with a knob on the outside, you might (consciously) not lock the door but still want to open the door from the outside. In this case, the Fob will lock the door, because it automatically switches from "unlocked" to "locked". To prevent this action, simply deactivate intelligent locking by the Fob in the Fob settings and specify the desired actions yourself. -->
-
What are the differences between the Keypad (Version 1) and the Keypad 2.0?
With the Keypad 2.0 the choice is yours: You can open your door by typing in a 6-digit entry code or by putting your finger on it.
With the Keypad 2.0 you can open your door conveniently with your fingerprint in just a few seconds. As an alternative, you can easily open the door with an entry code.
The fingerprint sensor also guarantees you the highest level of security.
The Keypad (version 1) does not have a fingerprint sensor. The door can therefore only be opened via entry codes.
The housing of the Keypad 2.0 is made of black plastic. Of course the Keypad 2.0 is protected against splashing water and dust (IP54).
The Keypad 2.0 is glued directly to the door frame. Installation and setup can be done by everybody in just a few minutes. An optimal power supply is ensured via four AAA batteries.
An overview of the different versions of the Nuki Keypad can be found here. -->
-
Is the Keypad weather-resistant and suitable for outdoor use?
The Keypad is weather-resistant and also suitable for outdoor use.
It has a protective surface to withstand temperatures from -20°C to +70°C. The housing is certified dust and water jet-proof in accordance with the IP54 standard. -->
-
How can I add a fingerprint?
With the Keypad 2.0 the choice is yours: You can open your door by typing in a 6-digit entry code or by putting your finger on it.
For security reasons, a fingerprint is always linked to an entry code:
1. Create an entry code or select an existing entry code under "Lock permissions" > "Keypad".
2. Select "Add fingerprint" in the authorization details of the entry code.
3. Follow the instructions of the Nuki app to scan and save your fingerprint.
You can add multiple fingerprints to one entry code. However, a maximum of 20 fingerprints can be stored in total. A fingerprint always has the same rights as the associated entry code. If you delete an entry code, the entry code and all the fingerprints linked to this entry code are irrevocably deleted. -->
-
Are there any restrictions when using the fingerprint?
Thanks to the fingerprint sensor, the Keypad 2.0 is suitable for all users.
The Keypad 2.0 is the ideal accessory for your Nuki smart access solution. Users of all ages can open the door with their fingerprint. This also applies to our youngest users. Because the features found in children's fingerprints are usually already sufficient for successful recognition. The Keypad 2.0 is also self-learning. Each time the sensor successfully recognizes a finger, it refines the stored information. It learns and grows with its users.
As with any fingerprint sensor, the reliability of recognition is affected by several factors. If the fingers are very small and the features of the fingerprint are only weak, recognition is more prone to error. Moisture and dirt also have a negative impact on recognition.
For security reasons, a fingerprint is always linked to an entry code.
This means for you: With the Keypad 2.0 you have the choice at any time. You can open your door by entering the 6-digit entry code or by placing your finger on the sensor. -->
-
How do I change the batteries of my Keypad 2.0?
The lifetime of the four AAA batteries included in the delivery is at least 12 months.
If the batteries need to be replaced, proceed as follows:
1. Detach the Keypad from the mounting plate. To do this, simply hold it by the side edges of the housing and slide it upwards. Then pull the Keypad towards you to remove it.
2. At the bottom of the Keypad's back you can find the release latch for opening the battery compartment. Place your finger on it and pull the cover towards you.
3. Slide the cover downwards to open the battery compartment.
4. Now replace the empty batteries with new ones. Make sure to match the polarity marked on the back of your Keypad.
You can find detailed instructions in our video tutorial. -->
-
Can I use more than one Nuki device with one Keypad?
The Keypad can only be paired with one Nuki device.
If you pair your Keypad with a new device, the connection to the previously connected device will be disconnected. Learn more.
With the Nuki app you can share up to 200 access codes with family and friends. If you have online access to your device, this even works remotely. Entry codes can be limited in time and also be deleted again, just like every other device permissions.
If you have the Keypad 2.0, you can create 20 fingerprints in addition to the entry codes. -->
-
Do I need online access to my Nuki device to use the Keypad?
No, you do not need online access to use the Keypad to open your door. Your Keypad connects to your Nuki access solution via a secure Bluetooth connection and is fully functional even without an internet connection.
However, if you have online access to your device, you will benefit from further advantages of Nuki. For example, you can create and manage entry codes for your Keypad remotely. -->
-
How can I assign or revoke Keypad rights?
You can simply and quickly generate up to 200 entry codes with the Nuki app.
Creating a new entry code
1. Open the settings of the Nuki device connected to the Keypad in the Nuki app.
2. Select "Lock permissions" > "Keypad".
3. Use the option "Add permission" to create a new entry code.
Deleting an entry code
1. Open the settings of the Nuki device connected to the Keypad in the Nuki app.
2. Select "Lock permissions" > "Keypad". Now you will see the already authorized entry codes for your device.

-
I forgot the security code for my Keypad. What can I do?
The security code protects your Keypad from unauthorized access.
During the initial setup of the Nuki Keypad you have to define a 6-digit security code - your personal Secure Code. Entering the Secure Code is required whenever you want to manage your Nuki Keypad or connect another device to the Nuki Keypad. The Secure Code therefore protects your Keypad from unauthorized access and theft.
Please write down your security code. You cannot manage or reset your Keypad without entering your Secure Code.
Forgot security code? If you have forgotten your security code, please contact the Nuki support. Please provide the following information:

Can I install the Opener by myself at home?
Like all Nuki Products, the Opener is designed for self-installation. For detailed instructions on how to install and set up your Opener, go to the Nuki app. The required installation material is included with your delivery. The output voltage of the intercom system is in the low range, so installing the system is not dangerous. If you are still wary about installing the Opener by yourself, simply find and contact a Nuki Pro partner (specialist) using our Store Locator.-->
-
How is the Opener supplied with power?
The Opener is operated by four AAA batteries; no power is drawn from the building system and a stable power supply is always ensured. This prevents power theft and you can also install the Nuki Opener at your home without your landlord's approval.-->
-
Why do I also need a Bridge to use the Opener?
The Opener communicates through Bluetooth (BLE). However, since a Bluetooth connection between your apartment and the front door of your building is usually not stable enough, or because there might not even be a connection at all, we recommend exclusively using the Opener together with the Bridge, which is connected to Wi-Fi. You can additionally also use the Bridge to remotely open the front door of your building.-->
-
Is the Opener compatible with the Keypad?
All Nuki products have been designed for compatibility with each other. This means that the Nuki Opener is compatible with the Keypad and the Fob and they can be linked using the Nuki app. Due to the physical limitations of Bluetooth and the often greater distance between the entrance door and intercom, we unfortunately cannot, however, guarantee orderly function.-->
-
Can I also control my electric garage door with the Opener?
In principle, the Opener can be used to control virtually every door. During the setup process using the Nuki app, you have the option to select other doors (e.g. garage, garden gate, switch) in addition to conventional intercom systems. You will find clear instructions on how to connect the Opener to any switch in the app.-->

What do I need to consider when I have a new smartphone?
Create a lock permission for your new smartphone.
When you want to use a new smartphone, all you have to do is to create a lock permission for your new device, as if you were a new user. You can delete the permission for the old smartphone.
More information about adding and managing lock permissions can be found here.
All the device settings in the Features & Configuration section, the permitted Lock permissions and the Activity log of your device still remain, since they are stored directly on the Nuki device, not on the phone. The configuration is not lost if you want to use a new smartphone. -->

I have lost/forgotten my smartphone. How do I open my door now?
There are several possibilities to enter your home without a smartphone.
-
Mechanical key
You can still use your existing, mechanical key. -
Friends & family
You can ask another authorized person (friends, family) to open the door for you. If you have online access to your Nuki device, this even works from afar. -
Smart accessories
Good alternatives to open your door simply and quickly without a smartphone are the Nuki Keypad and the Nuki Fob.
Note: At a power level of 20% Nuki will notify you via the Nuki app and directly on the device trough LED signalization. So there is enough time to replace your batteries of your Nuki device.

My Power Pack is stuck in my Smart Lock. What can I do?
If you're facing difficulties removing your Power Pack from the Smart Lock, try the following tip:
Pushing the Power Pack into the Smart Lock while actuating the release button should allow you to remove it. Once successfully removed, the Power Pack should continue to be easily detachable.
If you still encounter issues with removing the Power Pack, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Nuki Support Team. -->
-
How can I charge the Nuki Power Pack?
There are two ways to charge the Nuki Power Pack:
-
The Power Pack can be removed from the Smart Lock to charge it with a standard USB-C charging cable (included). The Nuki Power Pack is located on the bottom of the Smart Lock. To open it, press the small lever in the arrow direction and take the Power Pack out of the Smart Lock. Then charge the power pack and reinsert it into the Smart Lock.
-
The Power Pack can also be charged directly on the door while inserted into the Smart Lock. To do this, plug a USB-C charging cable in the appropriate length into one of the two USB-C ports of the Nuki Power Pack and charge the battery directly at the door. Be careful not to block the door with the cable to avoid damaging the Power Pack. Thus, a permanent power supply of the Smart Lock is possible. It is not necessary to unplug the cable to use the Smart Lock.

How do I know if the batteries or the Power Pack of my Smart Lock are empty?
Nuki will inform you in several ways if the batteries or the Power Pack of your Smart Lock are running low.

Push notification
You can additionally receive push notifications informing you when the battery level drops below 20%.
Email notification
If you use a Nuki Web account, there is also the possibility to get notified by email when the battery level of your Smart Lock has dropped to a critical level. -->
-
How long will I get along with a full charge of the Power Pack?
The Nuki Power Pack is equipped with a total charging capacity of 2500 mAh (4.8V DC | 2.5Ah | 12 Wh).
For an optimal power supply of your Smart Lock we recommend the Nuki Power Pack. With this rechargeable battery pack, the battery life is much longer than standard alkaline batteries and it is also more environmentally friendly than alkaline batteries.
In addition, the Power Pack enables a permanent power supply for your Smart Lock.
With an average use with 8-10 locking processes per day, the Nuki Power Pack will last up to 6 months until it is completely empty. -->
-
How do I know the battery level of the Nuki Power Pack?
At a power level of 20% Nuki will notify you via the Nuki app and directly on the Smart Lock. So there is enough time to replace your batteries of your Smart Lock or charge the battery or your Nuki Power Pack.
Here you can find more detailed information about battery warnings:

-->
-
What happens if the Smart Lock’s batteries go flat?
As soon as the battery charge level falls below 20%, the Nuki app notifies you, giving you sufficient time to change the batteries or charge the batteries of your Nuki Power Pack. You can also use your key to lock/unlock your door if the lock has an emergency function. The average battery life is around 4 months with alkaline batteries and around 6 months with the Nuki Power Pack. Your Smart Lock’s power consumption will depend on the frequency of locking/unlocking actions and how smoothly they can be carried out.

How can I be sure I am using the latest version of the app?
For more transparency and a better overview: new version numbering of the Nuki App releases.
At least once a month a new app release of the Nuki app is published. The best thing to do is to set your smartphone to update apps automatically. This way you can make sure that you always use the latest version and benefit from all features of your Nuki device.
For iOS, you can activate the “App Updates” option under “Settings” > “App Store”.
For Android, go to the top right of the profile icon in the Google Play Store app. Now select “Settings” > “Network preferences” > “Auto-update apps” in the settings.
In the menu, under “Help” at the bottom, you will find the app version you are currently using.
How is the version number composed?
The current format is composed of year, month and release number. So the last number shows you if it is the first release of the month. That means the first new app version in March has the following version number:
Year.Month.Release
2022.3.1
Why was the current format introduced?
In the past it was not always easy to keep track of current app versions. Until now, the current app version has been identified by a sequential number (e.g. 3.1.0 (654)). And that's exactly what we wanted to change: The naming should become clearer, easier and more informative for you. With the new format you can see at a glance when the version was released. Because the new format will also include the release date.
Will the current format also be introduced for firmware versions?
No. The current format is currently limited to the Nuki app. Version numbers of firmware or web are identified by a sequential number. -->

You can also use your Smart Lock with the Nuki Smart Home skill for Alexa. Please note that Alexa makes a difference between two states: unlocking and locking. If you've selected "Knob or bar" as the door handle, "unlocking" always automatically means "Open door" (Alexa can open doors with latch as well). If you've selected "lever", on the other hand, the door will just be unlocked without automatically opening it.
